I stopped by the hospital last night to see Dorothy Teeters. She is well advanced in years, and they say she has just days to live. Dorothy has been with Abundant Life since the beginning, and she was old back then to us thirty year-olds!
Dorothy's attitude is great as her life on earth winds down. She is ready to move on. As she shared stories of her life, and how much she has loved Abundant Life, a number of us who had gathered to visit shared our favorite stories of how she had influenced and impacted us. Her response was over and over again "But I didn't do anything!"
And then she went on to tell the story of her neighbor of five years who told her he would not be where he was spiritually if it weren't for her. Again she said "But I didn't do anything!"
"You were Dorothy. That's all you needed to do," one visitor offered.
Dorothy has stood the test of time as a woman who loves God, and who impacts all those around her through her overflow. I love Dorothy and I'm going to miss her until we meet up again on the other side of life here on earth.
And once again, Dorothy has impacted me. And I ask, so how are we doing? Is God's love in us spilling out all over those around us? Are we being light to the lost world simply by being ourselves?
Father, I want to stay close to you, and be a rock in your waterfall of love for this world.
Thank you for sharing about Dorothy. We will all remember her as a loving, smiling, committed, hard working woman of God. Its hard to see someone leave but I'm warmed by the thought that she will be welcomed into heaven by Charlie, her loving husband who touched us all. My prayers are with the family...
