I took a sculpture class a couple of weeks ago with a live model. Here's the backview. You can see more on my Facebook page, if you're curious. I thought I got it pretty close to what she looked like, but not perfect.
The one thing the instructor drove into me is "pay attention to what you see. Spend 90% of your time stepping back and looking at the model, and 10% moving clay. And work on what you see. She's facing the other way right now. Stop working on her face, and work on her neck. See how beautiful it is? Work on that, that's what you are seeing right now."
Ephesians 5 says "be imitators of God." And it made me wonder, how am I doing at paying attention to who God is and how He is revealing himself to me? Am I spending 90% of my time knowing God, instead of just working away trying to imitate who I think He is?
What is God showing you right now? Is that what you are working on? Or are you ignoring Him to work on your own agenda? Your own view of God?
